Burton Women's Solace Down Jacket

Skiers and snowboarders often pay top dollar for puffy down jackets, but the Burton Solace Down Jacket for women offers warmth from the weather with respite from unreasonable winter outerwear prices. Burton designed their Solace with quality 550-fill down, which is ideal insulation for most riders and skiers who prefer mild weather skiing conditions. The truth is that most of us probably don't need a 750-fill down jacket unless we're skiing or snowboarding wind-sculpted 8,000-meter peaks in near-blizzard conditions. The Women's Solace Down Jacket features zippered handwarmer pockets lined with warm DRYRIDE Thermex fleece and a detachable Contour hood that works well for anyone who prefers to wear a helmet while doing runs or taking turns in the halfpipe. Keep in mind that while the Burton Women's Solace Down Jacket is water resistant, it works best when layered beneath a waterproof shell in wet snow and rainy weather conditions.

  • Fabric: Lightweight nylon DWR-coated material
  • Insulation: 550-fill down insulation
  • Lining: DRYRIDE Thermex™ fleece lining in pockets
  • Removable Contour™ Hood
  • Burton Sig Fit (flattering but not too tight)
  • Chafe-Free Chin Guard

Flattering, everyday down coat
I was debating between the Patagonia down jacket and this, and decided on this for the fit. The jacket is long and narrow, rather than boxy, and the wrists have built in gaitors with thumb hooks that make it that warmer. The only negatives would be the fit of the hood and loss of down. The hood does not work with the neck, it doesn't make for a cohesive unit and I was getting feather loss day one, maybe just a hazard of down.
