General Information

Description - This area is filled with many attractions that are worthy of a visit here. The town of Cave Creek is nearby and hosts one of the largest sundials in the world and the largest sundial in the Western Hemisphere. The metal cast, or shadow-casting portion of the dial, stands 35 feet above the plaza, is four feet wide and extends 72 feet. Hanging from the gnomon is a sunburst of colored glass seven feet in diameter. A pool and fountain are directly underneath the sundial.

Also located in this district is the Cave Creek Mistress Mine -- Located about 10 miles north of Carefree, this old-fashioned 1883 gold mine is truly a landmark worthy of a stop if you're interested in local history; address is 45402 N. Seven Springs Rd. on the way to the Seven Springs Campgrounds.

Camping, fishing, hiking are the most popular activities in this dry desert area. Just north of the town of Cave Creek you'll find a series of excellent trails, that are part of the Cave Creek Trail System.

In the Desert region above Phoenix and Scottsdale you'll find the bucoloic village of Cave Creek. This is your last stop before heading into the High desert and wilderness areas. From Phoenix travel north on Scottsdale road to the town of Carefree, then follow the signs west to the town of Cave Creek.
