Crescent Ranger District

Attractions - The district encompasses: Black Rock Area, Crescent Lake Area, Davis Lake Area, Odell Lake Area, Summit Lake Area, and the Big Marsh Area.

Recreation - There are many hiking and horseback riding trails offering access to and into the wilderness areas within this district. Dispersed camping is available in the wildernesses. The non-wilderness area of the district has many hiking, horse riding and mountain bike trails, as well as, off-highway vehicle use areas. Camping and fishing are also popular activities in the forest. There are a good number of developed campsites, many of which are located near rivers and lakes providing access to good fishing opportunities.

Climate - With its huge elevation range, climate on the Deschutes changes drastically depending on elevation. The high elevations receive much more precipitation and colder temperatures. Much of the precipitation comes from October to April, mostly in the form of snow in the higher elevations. Winter temperatures can drop below zero degrees Fahrenheit. Late spring, summer and early autumn tend to bring clear, sunny days, with warm to hot temperatures at the low elevations and moderate temperatures at the higher elevations. Summer afternoon thunderstorms are not uncommon.

Location - The Crescent Ranger District of the Deschutes National Forest encompasses the town of Crescent and spans north, south and west of the town. The district encompasses: Black Rock Area, Crescent Lake Area, Davis Lake Area, Odell Lake Area, Summit Lake Area, and the Big Marsh Area. The forest can be accessed via Forest Roads 97, 61, 53 and 46.
