Description - Covering the northern section of the Mount Hood National Forest, the Hood River Ranger District provides an assortment of outdoor recreation in addition to the famous Mount Hood Wilderness. Recreation includes fishing, hiking, biking, backpacking, camping, climbing, horseback riding, and boating. There are numerous campgrounds, trails and lakes for visitors to enjoy. In addition, there is the Columbia Wilderness which features a marine climate, deep canyons and tons of lakes, creeks and streams. Finally, the Hood River offers excellent fishing opportunities for rainbow trout, chinook and steelhead.

- The Hood River Ranger District features the highest peak in the forest, Mount Hood, as well as the Columbia and Mount Hood Wildernesses. There is an abundance of lakes, streams and creeks, in addition to the Hood River, which offer excellent fishing and boating. Numerous trails and campgrounds also provide outdoor enthusiasts a great deal of backpacking, hiking, biking and horseback riding opportunities.

Hood changes with elevation.The area receives a high amount of precipitation. Much of the precipitation comes from October to April in the form of rain at the low elevations and as wet heavy snow in the higher elevations. Although snow is possible in the lowest elevations, it is infrequent. Late spring, summer and early autumn tend to bring clear, sunny days with moderate temperatures. Location -
Located in the northern portion of the Mount Hood National Forest, the Hood River Ranger District can be accessed from Highway 35 and Primary Forest Routes 17, 13, 20, 10, 44, 16 and 18.
