Description
- Whether you want to drive back country roads or hike back country trails, this national forest offers you that opportunity. It provides a glorious spot from which you may either bird-watch, hunt, fish or simply enjoy the beautiful blue misty mountains. The National Forests offer camping, picnicking, shooting ranges, swimming and boating, mountain biking and all sorts of fishing and hiking opportunities.
Recreation - This area offers in addition to the traditional park facilities, environmental education programs, timber management, fire resource management and wildlife preservation. Climate - Virginia generally has mild winters and warm humid summers. The mountainous Blue Ridge area has cold winter months with temperatures ranging from 36 degrees Fahrenheit (2 degrees Celsius) and dropping below 32 degrees Fahrenheit (0 Celsius). The state's summer temperatures have little variation. The summer mountainous Blue Ridge temperatures range from below 74 degrees Fahrenheit (23 Celsius) to 78 degrees Fahrenheit (26 Celsius). The National Forest is located in Virginia's western area running as far south as the Kentucky / Tennessee border to as far north as Winchester which is slightly below the Maryland / Pennsylvania state lines.
Directions from : Travel U.S. 58 east for approximately 6.5 miles, U.S. 58 veers rights, however, you will want to continue straight onto Rt. 603. Take Rt. 603 for about 10 miles to Troutdale. Turn left onto Rt. 16 and travel approximately 1 miles. Turn left on Rt. 650 to the campground.
