Description - Dardanelle Lake is part of the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System. Completed in the 1970's, this 440-mile waterway connects Oklahoma to the Mississippi River. The lake stretches 50 miles up the Arkansas River Valley from Dardanelle Lock and Dam to Ozark-Jeta Taylor Lock and Dam. About 315 miles of shoreline give the visitor ample fishing and camping opportunities.
Attractions
- A visitors center, located 1 1/2 miles west of Arkansas Hwy. 7 at the Old Post Road Park, explains the development of the Arkansas River Valley from the days of the Indians to the present through interpretive exhibits entitled "Renaissance of a River."
Recreation - Good boating, fishing, scenery and nearby historical sites along Dardanelle Lake attract several million visitors each year. Climate - Arkansas has a temperate climate with the coldest temperatures near freezing during December, January and February. Daytime highs for these months usually reach 55 degrees F. Spring and fall temperatures are very mild with lows dipping to 44 degrees F and highs reaching 70 degrees F. July and August are the hottest months of the year with average temperatures reaching 90 degrees F. June and September average temperatures usually reach into the mid-eighties. Dardanelle Lake is located on the upper Arkansas River in the hills of western Arkansas. From Little Rock, travel 65 miles north on I-40 and continue just past Russellville.
