Report: Fabulous tour of the newly opened Ortiz Mountain Educational Preserve. Glorious views! More than 1000 acres now protected by the Santa Fe Botanical Society. Previously area was known for gold mining, entire Ortiz mountain area rich in history. Mountain top inn adjacent, Hacienda Dona Andrea is spectacular retreat, planning a stay next time. Small mining town of Madrid nearby has great shops. Town of Cerrillos is a find, lots of old west feeling there. Also, Cerrillos Hills Preserve is said to be a great hike but we did not have time. Much better than the standard I-25 route from Santa Fe to Albuquerque, could have stayed up there forever!
