General Information

Description - Pasadena was initially founded as a resort area by easterners in the late nineteenth century. It supports a variety of cultural, historic and natural attractions. Heritage Square, Pacific Asia Museum, San Gabriel Mission and the Southwest Museum are resources that interpret the human history of the region.

Several green spaces are open to the public in and around the community. Descanso Gardens highlights exotic and native plants to southern California, specializing in camellia gardens. The Los Angeles State and County Arboretum is comprised of 127 acres of natural area that blooms throughout the year. Brookside Park, located near the Rose Bowl, contains picnic tables, tennis courts, horseshoe pits and a golf course.

Recreation - The recreation opportunities in this region are endless. In the city visitors and locals can enjoy picnicking, walking, golfing and tennis. In the National Forest immediately north of Pasadena, facilities support camping, biking, hiking, backpacking, fishing and horseback riding.

Climate - The climate in this region is mild throughout the year. Summer temperatures reach average highs of 85 degrees F and average lows of 60 degrees F. Winter temperatures dip to 40 degrees in January and February with highs in the mid sixties during those months. This area receives the most rainfall in December, January and February.

Location - Pasadena is located ten miles northeast of Los Angeles at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains.
