General Information

Description - San Diego is an excellent beginning point for adventures in the Cleveland National Forest, which has districts northeast, east and southeast of the city. Within the city limits are several natural, historical and cultural sites to see. Balboa Park is an urban park located north of downtown. It includes the San Diego Zoo, Natural History Museum, public golf course and a bike path. Mission Bay Park, at the mouth of the San Diego River, contains green areas, bike paths, beaches and boating facilities. It also contains Sea World, which is the biggest attraction to the park. Other highlights in and around the city include the Maritime Museum of San Diego, Presidio Park and Cabrillo National Monument.

Recreation - Visitors and residents of San Diego have access to a plethora of outdoor activities. The Pacific Ocean and various beaches support whale watching, deep sea fishing, swimming and boating. Camping in area parks as well as biking, golfing, hiking and horseback riding are accessible in the immediate area.

Climate - San Diego has a mild climate with average yearly temperatures around 70 degrees F, for the high, and 53 degrees F, for the low. Humidity is always low in the region. The average amount of annual rainfall is nine inches, with most of it coming in December, January, February and March.

Location - This city lies on the southern California coast approximately 14 miles from the Mexican border. It is built around the mouth of the San Diego River. Several major freeways lead in and around the city.
