Description - There are 60 kilometers of groomed skiing available in this trail system. The majority of the system is groomed for both classic and skate skiing although there are some trails that are classic-only. This is a true winter trail system and does encourage snowshoe use on all of its trails although walkers, runners and bicyclists are not permitted.
There are many locations to access the system and almost all trailheads are accessible via free public transportation. The system is not patrolled so use your best judgment as to ability and fitness levels.
Attractions
- A network of groomed trails and a nordic center is located on two golf courses at both ends of the system. The Owl Creek trail connects the two centers. In Aspen, additional trails are located near the Aspen High School, on the Marolt and Moore Open Spaces, on the Rio Grand Trail and on the Northstar Nature Preserve. In Snowmass, Terminator and Village Run provide tracks for the more advanced skier.
Recreation - Cross-country skiing is the only activity allowed within the groomed tracks. The groomed area next to the tracks can be used for snowshoeing and skate skiing. Dogs are not allowed except on designated trails. Climate - Winter lows occasionally dip below 0, though daytime temperatures are often in the 20s and 30s. The relative humidity is quite low throughout the year. Be prepared for sudden changes in the weather and bring plenty of layers and water. Be familiar with the symptoms of hypothermia and frost bite. Location -
The Aspen/Snowmass Nordic Trail System is located in and between the towns of Aspen and Snowmass Village in northwestern Colorado.
