Description - Vega Lake is a beautiful high-mountain lake that sits in a glorious alpine meadow on the west edge of Grand Mesa National Forest.Vega State Park lies 55 miles east of Grand Junction on the northern edge of the Grand Mesa National Forest. The focus of recreation activity in the park is a 900 surface-acre reservoir.

Vega State Park
- Vega State Park lies 55 miles east of Grand Junction on the northern edge of the Grand Mesa National Forest. The focus of recreation activity in the park is a 900 surface-acre reservoir. The park is open for year-round overnight use.
Four campgrounds, with 110 sites, line the shores of Vega Reservoir. Two campgrounds lie on the northern shore of the lake, where there are also two boat ramps, a picnic area, playground and dump station. On the eastern shore of the lake is a group picnic area that can accommodate 200 people. A sheltered eating area with a horseshoe pit and open field for volley or softball games. Reservations are required for this site.
Along the southern shore of Vega Lake is the Vega Nature Trail that provides interpretive panels that explain the ecology of the area. There are also two picnic areas on this side of the shore. On the western shore lies a group campground. This site provides vault toilets, but no drinking water. The other campgrounds in the park provide tables, grills, vault toilets and drinking water.
Recreation - Most users of Vega Lake come for boating, fishing and camping. Picnicking, water skiing, jet skiing, sailing and hiking are also available for visitors. The extensive trail systems of the Grand Mesa National Forest are located close to the park boundaries.
Climate - Climate conditions in Colorado should be taken seriously throughout the state. Snow and ice are common on roads and trails from mid-October through late April. In the summer months, snow is still possible but less common. Varying conditions throughout a given day can be expected throughout the year. Remember that summer days can typically have beautiful sunny mornings and short sudden thunderstorms in the afternoon. Please prepare appropriately for your outdoor experience.
Vega State Park is located approximately 55 miles east of Grand Junction. The public lands of the Grand Mesa National Forest surround the park.
Directions - Drive 55 miles east of Grand Junction and turn south off I-70 onto Colorado Highway 65. Drive 10 miles to Colorado 330 east through Collbran and drive the final 12 miles to the park entrance.
