Turkey Run State Park
Description - The first parcel of Turkey Run’s 2,382 acres was purchased during our State’s centennial in 1916 when the State Park system was first established. Turkey Run is Indiana’s second state park.

Attractions - Deep canyons nestled in the shadows of sandstone cliffs and peaceful hemlock groves harbor some of the most ruggedly beautiful hiking trails in the state. From the tiny mosses and ferns to the majestic old-growth walnuts and sycamores, lush plant communities thrive here, supporting an abundance of wildlife. Deer tracks, beaver-chewed trees, pileated woodpecker excavations, the rocking flight of the turkey vulture, all are common sights throughout the year. Turkey Run serves as the final resting place for Col. Richard Lieber, the father of Indiana State Parks. His foresight allowed Indiana to become one of the first states in the nation to preserve significant natural areas in a system of state parks. The Lieber Memorial rests atop a peaceful hemlock grove near the end of trail 11.

Recreation - Activities at Turkey Run State Park include; camping, fishing, hiking, picnicking, interpretive programs, hey rides, guided horseback rides and swimming. Turkey Run also has historical tours, a nature center and an inn with both rooms and cabins available.

Climate - Visitors to this state can expect hot and humid summer days that often reach 90 degrees F in July and August. Summer nights bring little relief with an average temperature of 70. Winter can be extremely cold in this Midwestern state with a yearly average of 40 inches of snow and low temperatures dipping to negative 15 degrees F. Winter daytime highs average close to 40 degrees. Spring and fall are excellent times to visit Indiana spring brings blooming wildflowers and daytime highs of 65 degrees F. With falls mild temperatures the leaves in the forested southern regions of the state change to brilliant hues.

Location - Turkey Run State Park is located in west central Indiana on State Road 47 two miles east of State Road 41.
