General Information

Description - This interesting historic site is located in the center of Kittery which is at the southern tip of the state. History enthusiasts often enjoy their Maine explorations beginning from this point then traveling northward. The John Paul Jones Memorial commemorates the nearby site where in 1777 the U.S.S. Ranger was built and launched. On this ship, Jones received the first salute by a foreign power given a man-of-war flying the Stars and Stripes.

Climate - The year-round vacation spot of the Southern Maine Coast Region experiences daytime winter temperatures above 18 degrees Fahrenheit (-8 Celsius). Similar to the Greater Portland and Mid Coast Regions, summer daytime temperatures average a pleasant 68 degrees (20 Celsius) or slightly above. The region receives an average of 40 - 44 inches (102 - 112 centimeters) of precipitation each year.

Location - This state historic site is located on US 1 in the center of Kittery, located at the southern tip of the state.
