General Information

Description - Chase Lake NWR was established in 1908 and is the second oldest refuge in North Dakota. The refuge features 4,385 acres of unique native prairie grassland and wetland habitats.

Two native prairie islands support the largest nesting colony of white pelicans in North America with populations ranging over 20,000! An additional 6,112 acres of State and Federal public lands lie adjacent to the refuge preserving valuable habitats for a wide diversity of resident and migratory wildlife, including federally and state listed endangered species.
