Description - Merrimack Valley is the seat of New Hampshire's state government. Philanthropy and volunteerism run deep in this part of the country. State legislators are paid a mere $100 a year and volunteerism is four times higher than any other area in the country. The area is rich in arts and culture and boasts four-season scenery. Folks with a zeal for outdoor recreation will find numerous attractions ranging from beautiful golf courses to whitewater boating and viewing historic sites to freshwater swimming beaches.

- Year-round attractions draw thousands of visitors each year to this lovely relaxed region of the state. A favorite site is the Robert Frost Farm, the home of poet Robert Frost and his family from 1900-1909. Another historic site, Hannah Duston Memorial, erected in 1902, commemorates Hannah Duston for her bravery in scalping a band of Mohawk Indians after being captured, drug through 100 miles of wilderness and having her youngest child, Martha, murdered in 1697. Folks that enjoy water recreation will find Clough State Park, Silver Lake, Pawtuckaway and Bear Brook. Each site offers multi-use trails, fishing waters, boating opportunities, campgrounds, fitness stations and winter sports amenities.
Recreation - Outdoor enthusiasts will discover that this remarkable area of the New Hampshire is noted for covered bridges, scenic drives, historic sites, golf courses, canoeing and kayaking opportunities and six state parks. The area even has its own Stonehenge which is open year-round. Climate - New Hampshire residents experience four distinct seasons. Winter can be cold with average temperatures ranging around 19 degrees Fahrenheit. The cold temperatures humidity bring heavy, water-laden snow to all parts of the state. Spring begins in mid-March and lasts through May. This time of the year is referred to as mud season in the mountains. The sugar is flowing early in the season and wild flowers bloom toward the end of it. Summer is the busiest season of the year for the tourism industry. This is an excellent time to travel, mountain roads are open and most of the mud has dried. Average summer temperatures range around 68 degrees Fahrenheit.
