General Information

Description - Monadnock is considered the second most frequently climbed mountain in the world. The park has a small campground located at the base of many trails. The mountain is crisscrossed by moderate to easy trails that start within the park. The mountain can also be hiked by an old mountain toll road on SR 124 and many other trails.

Attractions - Monadnock State Park is situated amidst 5,000 wooded acres with sheer cliffed mountains famous for climbing opportunities. A campground and numerous hiking trails offer an alternative recreation. Open ridges, bulbous promontories and thick spruce forest characterizes this area.

Recreation - Monadnock State Park offers year-round access for camping, group camping, hiking and picnicking. A visitor center is located at this park which charges a $2.50 entrance fee. Children 11 and under are free.

Climate - Winter can be cold with average temperatures ranging around 19 degrees Fahrenheit. The cold temperatures humidity bring heavy, water-laden snow to all parts of the state. Spring begins in mid-March and lasts through May. This time of the year is referred to as mud season in the mountains. The sugar is flowing early in the season and wild flowers bloom toward the end of it. Summer is the busiest season of the year for the tourism industry. This is an excellent time to travel, mountain roads are open and most of the mud has dried. Average summer temperatures range around 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Fall brings the leaf lookers to see the spectacular colors of the deciduous trees. Expect to see bus loads of people enjoying the crisp fall New England weather.

Location - Monadnock State Park is located off SR 124 approximately 1.5 miles west of Jaffrey.

Report: An easy to moderate hike with some boulder hopping on most of the trails. When snow and ice are present the white arrow trail makes a nice ascent route. If vistas are what your looking for I suggest the Cascade to the Pumperpelly. Thisis a 3 mile ridge traverse to the summit.
