Description - Primarily dominated by the neon gambling hub of the Las Vegas city, the area has often been titled the "Entertainment Capital of the World". Yet, within a short distance from the city there is a region of outstanding beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities.

- Beyond the city, the Las Vegas Region offers startlingly diverse mountain and desert landscapes. This includes the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area which has 197,000 acres of land and 30 miles of hiking trails and picnic area. Bighorn sheep and wild burros populate this area. Valley of Fire State Park offers additional scenic opportunities. The valley derives its name from the red sandstone formations and the stark beauty of the Mojave Desert. Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, once owned by billionaire Howard Hughes, is now a shady retreat where visitors can enjoy outdoor concerts and performances in the summertime. Lake Mead is the largest manmade lake in the Western Hemisphere. Both it and Lake Mojave to the south are part of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, which is operated by the National Park Service.Also Valley of Fire is Nevada's oldest and largest State Park. Big Bend of the Colorado offers additional water based recreation opportunities. Las Vegas Region offers visitors access to scenic areas such as the Red Rock Canyon National conservation Area, Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, Valley of Fire state Park and Floyd Lamb State Park.
Recreation - Las Vegas offers endless opportunities for entertainment. Outside the city, many outdoor recreation opportunities also exist. Some of the most popular include: hiking, camping, rock climbing, mountain biking, fishing, boating, water skiing, and viewing scenery. Climate - This region experiences typical low desert conditions. Winters are mild with temperatures ranging from freezing to 75 degrees. Summer brings extremely hot weather. The Las Vegas Region is located in southern Nevada. Interstate 15 runs through the middle of this region. In addition to the city of Las Vegas, this region also includes Laughlin, Boulder City and Mesquite.
