Description - The glacial sculpted area of Finger Lakes Travel Region is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. The region offers 21 State Parks and one State Historic Site. The area is well known for some of the state's best scenery and fishing opportunities. Bounded by Lake Ontario to the north and the state of Pennsylvania to the south, the area offers a myriad of water-oriented sports including excellent fishing, boating, sailing, windsurfing and canoeing. Visitors of all ages enjoy the thrill of walking behind fabulous waterfalls. Camping opportunities, multi-use trails, hunting, picnicking and winter sports prevail as well.

- The long slender glacial lakes of Finger Lakes Travel Region offer 21 State Parks and one State Historic Site. This area includes the famous resort, Watkins Glen, which is located along the shores of Seneca Lake. This beautiful west-central area of New York consists of rolling hills less than 1,000 feet in elevation. The countryside is dotted with wineries, orchards, dairy farms, resorts and country inns. The region is bordered by Lake Ontario to the north and the state of Pennsylvania to the south.
Recreation - Viewing scenery is probably the most favorite outdoor activity in this travel region. Waterfalls and deep cool gorges abound. Finger Lakes offers a myriad of water-oriented sports including excellent fishing, boating, sailing, windsurfing and canoeing. Camping opportunities overflow in this glacial sculpted region. Multi-use trails, hunting, picnicking and winter sports are also plentiful. Climate - The Finger Lakes Travel Region experiences average January temperatures above 22 degrees Fahrenheit (above -6 degrees Celsius). It is important to note that this area receives some of the heaviest snowfalls in the nation. Summer temperatures average around 72 degrees Fahrenheit (around 22 degrees Celsius). Precipitation in the region ranges from less than 36 inches to approximately 40 inches of rain and snowmelt. Location -
The west-central region of Finger Lakes is bordered by Lake Ontario to the north, the state of Pennsylvania to the south, Genesee and Allegany Travel Regions to the west and Central Travel Region to the east.
