Lake Erie State Park
Description - High bluffs overlooking the blue waters of the Great Lake offer wonderful sights year-round. Cheek tingling breezes attract cross-country skiers in winter while sandy white beaches draw thousands in summer. This park serves as a resting place for migrating birds before crossing the shallowest of the Great Lakes, Lake Erie.

Attractions - Located in the northwest corner of the Allegany Travel Region, Lake Erie State Park rests on high bluffs overlooking the now gorgeous waters of Lake Erie. Lake Erie is the shallowest and farthest south of the Great Lakes. Beginning in the mid 1800's industries dumped their waste into the lake resulting in devastating amounts of pollution. In the 1960's the U.S. Government in conjunction with Canada, began cleanup efforts. In a lake where swimming was prohibited and the fish population was virtually dead, today it serves as a recreation delight. Visitors to Lake Erie State Park enjoy swimming, sightseeing, fishing, boating, sailing and more.

Recreation - Lake Erie State Park offers 97 campsites, 10 cabins, magnificent scenery, swimming, picnicking (shelters available), playgrounds, multi-use trails and viewing bird migrations.

Climate - The Lake Erie State Park area experiences average January temperatures between 18 degrees to above 22 degrees Fahrenheit (-8 to above -6 degrees Celsius). Summer temperatures average above 68 degrees Fahrenheit (above 22 degrees Celsius). Precipitation in the region ranges from 40 to more than 44 inches of rain and snowmelt.

Location - Lake Erie State Park is located along the shores of great Lake Erie on SR 5, 7 miles west of Dunkirk.
