General Information

Description - Administered by the US Army Corps of Engineers , Raystown Lake encompasses 29,300 acres for flood protection along with a variety of recreational opportunities including boat launches, marinas, camping, winter sports, picnicking, swimming and access areas for anglers.

Attractions - This major recreation area administered by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers encompasses 29,300 acres including a 30-mile long, narrow 8300-acre lake. Administered by the US Army Corps of Engineers , Raystown Lake encompasses 29,300 acres for flood protection along with a variety of recreational opportunities including boat launches, marinas, camping, winter sports, picnicking, swimming and access areas for anglers.

Recreation - A variety of recreational opportunities are provided in 13 public use areas, including boat launches, marinas, camping, winter sports, picnicking, swimming and access areas for the fishermen.

Climate - Pennsylvania generally has a moist climate with cold winters and warm summers. The Raystown Lake area has cold winter months with temperatures averaging around 24 to 28 degrees Fahrenheit (-4 to -2 degrees Celsius). The area's average summer temperatures range around 68 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit (20 to 22 Celsius).

Location - Raystown Lake is located in the southern area of the state west of Harrisburg and east of Johnstown in Huntingdon and Bedford Counties.
The headquarters is 2 mi. E of PA 26.

Hershey / Dutch Country Area - History and natural delights intermingle with the hand-plowed farm fields of the Amish and the scent of the Hershey Chocolate Factory.
