Forbes State Forest- Most of the Forbes State Forest lays along Laurel Ridge. This area is a favorite of people from the greater Pittsburgh area and is heavily used for all types of outdoor recreation.
Laurel Ridge State Park- Laurel Ridge State Park stretches along the Laurel Mountain from the Picturesque Yougiogheny River at Ohiopyle to the Conemaugh Gorge near Johnstown. This large park spans five counties. Most visitors come to hike. The Laurel Highlands Trail extends over 70 miles and features trail shelters for overnight camping.

General Information

Description - The Bureau of State Parks operates this scenic picnic area. It consists of 6 acres at an elevation of 2,739 feet above sea level. The temperatures are cooler at this elevation, drawing folks from the surrounding towns on hot summer days. The park sits just north of Laurel Ridge State Park. Several picnic tables, a shelter, water and restroom are available. Because this area lies within the Forbes State Forest along one of the main roads, it serves as trailhead parking for Spruce Flats Bog and Wolf Rocks Trails.

Recreation - Several picnic tables, a shelter, water and restroom are available. Because this area lies within the Forbes State Forest along one of the main roads, it serves as trailhead parking for Spruce Flats Bog and Wolf Rocks Trails. Laurel Summit is a carry in / carry out area. Please take all your trash with you.

Climate - Pennsylvania generally has a moist climate with cold winters and warm summers. The Laurel Summit State Park area has cold winter months with temperatures averaging around 24 to 28 degrees Fahrenheit (-4 to -2 degrees Celsius). The area's average summer temperatures range around 68 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit (20 to 22 Celsius).

Location - Laurel Mountain State Park is located in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania just south of Ligonier. Travel US 30 for approximately 8 miles turning right onto Laurel Summit Road. Travel about 1.5 miles turning right into the state park.
