Goodale State Park
Description - The park is named in honor of N.R. Goodale, a Camden florist who was largely responsible for the acquisition of the park for Kershaw County in the early 1950s. Cypress trees line the spring-fed lake which offers swimming, boating and fishing. The 763-acre park features a nine-hole golf course for the novice golfer. The park lake is on the site of an old mill pond that dates back to Civil War days. The lake is a haven of cypress trees, waterbirds and other plants and wildlife.

Park amenities include a nine-hole free practice golf course, a one-mile Boy Scout trail, a two-mile canoe trail and fishing in the park's 140-acre lake for bass, bream, catfish, and playground equipment. Seasonal lake swimming and rental electric and pedal boats are offered. Check with park before making final plans. Meeting facilities have a capacity for 100 people.

Recreation - Goodale State Park offers opportunities for golfing, canoeing, boating (electric or nonmotorized boats only), fishing, picnicking, swimming and group meetings.

Climate - South Carolina generally has a temperate climate, with cool winters and warm, humid summers. Snow and freezing temperatures are possible in the winter at the higher elevations. Thunderstorms are possible throughout the year but most common in the spring and summer. Tropical storms occasionally strike the coast during the hurricane season.

Location - Goodale State Park is located in north-central South Carolina, off US Highway 1, 5 miles northeast of Camden off Old Wire Road.

Report: We are new to the area and love the outdoors. This park rivals any wildlife experiences I've had in the past. The park is VERY clean. There are easy trails and plenty of wild creatures. I took my 3 yr old for a short hike and we saw an alligator! The park is just breathtakingly beautiful. I highly recommend it for individuals and families.
