Description
- The lakes and reservoirs in South Carolina range from huge reservoirs to small lakes. Many of the lakes are surrounded by campgrounds, picnic areas and trails. Some of the larger lakes have State Parks along their shores. Thurmond and Hartwell Lakes are some of the most popular in the country, attracting millions of visitors annually.
Recreation - These lakes and reservoirs offer varying opportunities depending on their size and level of development. Opportunities include boating, water skiing, fishing, swimming, camping, picnicking, and hiking. Climate - South Carolina generally has a temperate climate, with cool winters and warm, humid summers. Snow and freezing temperatures are possible in the winter at the higher elevations. Thunderstorms are possible throughout the year but most common in the spring and summer. Tropical storms occasionally strike the coast during the hurricane season. Location -
South Carolina's lakes and reservoirs are scattered throughout the state. Several of the large reservoirs are located along the Savannah River on the South Carolina - Georgia border.
