Lake Hartwell State Park
Description - This scenic 680-acre Upcountry state park, with its fourteen miles of shoreline on Lake Hartwell, is popular with fishermen, nature lovers and campers. Conveniently located just off I-85, the park offers thickly wooded areas in addition to scenic views of the lake and distant foothills. Lake Hartwell, completed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1963, is a 56,000-acre reservoir providing flood control and hydroelectric power. It is one of three impoundment's located on the Savannah River.

Visitors can camp in the 148 campsite campground, with and 117 RV campsites and 31 walk-in tent only sites. Enjoy fishing in Lake Hartwell for largemouth bass, crappie, bream, stripers, hybrid bass, catfish. Two boat ramps access the lake. There is one picnic shelter with a capacity for up to 100 people. The park has a 1 1/4 mile nature trail. A park store offers limited supplies.

Recreation - This park sits on 56,000 acre Lake Hartwell and offers a variety of recreation activities. The most popular activities are boating, fishing, camping, picnicking, and hiking.

Climate - South Carolina generally has a temperate climate, with cool winters and warm, humid summers. Snow and freezing temperatures are possible in the winter at the higher elevations. Thunderstorms are possible throughout the year but most common in the spring and summer. Tropical storms occasionally strike the coast during the hurricane season.

Location - Lake Hartwell State Park is adjacent to the interchange of I-85 (exit #1), and SC 11 near Fair Play, at the South Carolina-Georgia border.

Report: Me and my daughter visited this park in late June/03. It was one of the nicest parks and prettiest sites that I have ever seen. I will definately be going back.
