Oconee State Park
Description - This popular mountain park sits on a plateau in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The park's mountain lakes provide opportunities for swimming and fishing. Built in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps, many of the structures on the park today display the CCC's rustic style of architecture and stonework. Many visitors use the park as a base while visiting area attractions, hiking on the Foothills Trail or rafting on the nearby Chattooga River, designated a National Wild and Scenic River.

Visitors may choose from cabins, barracks, or campsites for their overnight accommodations. The park has nineteen 1 or 2-bedroom cabins. A barracks accommodates up to 16 people. The campground has 150 sites, 140 are RV accessible and 10 are walk-in, tent sites only. Four picnic shelters can be reserved. The park has several hiking trails. Enjoy fishing in the parks' 20-acre and 12-acre lakes for bass, bream and catfish. Canoe and paddle boat rentals are available. Private boats are not permitted on the lakes. Other park amenities include a museum, an archery range, a carpet golf area, a playground, a multipurpose recreation building, a meeting room, and a park store.

Recreation - This park offers numerous recreation opportunities including camping, picnicking, fishing, hiking, canoeing, archery, and carpet golf.

Climate - South Carolina generally has a temperate climate, with cool winters and warm, humid summers. Snow and freezing temperatures are possible in the winter at the higher elevations. Thunderstorms are possible throughout the year but most common in the spring and summer. Tropical storms occasionally strike the coast during the hurricane season.

Location - Oconee State Park is located in the mountains of northwestern South Carolina. It is 12 miles northwest of Wallhalla off SC Highway 28 onto SC Highway 107.

Report: The toughest part of Oconee State park is getting cabins during the changing of the leaves. One must book their cabin early. The biggest rewards are sharing your cabin with family, hiking, views, cleanliness, well marked trails, and curtious rangers.
