Oconee Station State Historic Site
Description - The oldest structure in Oconee County, the old stone "station" building is the main feature of the park. Once used as a fortified blockhouse and a Native American trading post, this building and the nearby Richard's house survived from a time when these foothills were part of the Indian frontier. This site is listed on the National Historic Register.

The Station House and Richard's House are open for tours on weekends. Oconee Station Trail is a moderate nature trail, 1.5 miles one-way. Visitors enjoy fishing in the park pond for bass and bream. The park has a small picnic area.

Recreation - Oconee Station offers opportunities to view this historic site, to fish, hike and picnic. Nearby Oconee State Park offers more numerous recreation opportunities including camping, picnicking, fishing, hiking, canoeing, archery, and carpet golf.

Climate - South Carolina generally has a temperate climate, with cool winters and warm, humid summers. Snow and freezing temperatures are possible in the winter at the higher elevations. Thunderstorms are possible throughout the year but most common in the spring and summer. Tropical storms occasionally strike the coast during the hurricane season.

Location - Oconee Station is located in the very northwest corner of South Carolina, just west of Lake Keowee and near Oconee State Park. The site is 2 miles off SC Highway 11 on Oconee Station Road.
