General Information

Description - Limestone caverns consist of a series of chambers connected by narrow passages, with fine calcite crystal encrustations.

Climate - As throughout the region, climate varies drastically depending on elevation. Summers generally offer warm clear days with cool nights. Afternoon thunderstorms are often a possibility in the summer. In the winter, sunshine, with plenty of snow in the higher elevations, are ideal for winter activities. Harsh weather - including wind, cold, and snow - is possible throughout the winter and even throughout the year, in the highest elevations.

Report: If you have never been on a cave tour - then you will probably enjoy it. If you have been on a cave tour - and are visiting S.D. for a short period - there are so many more beautiful places to see. A cave is a cave, I have been to a few - this was not among the best - but it was a cave. Try Custer State park if you have some time to kill.
