Camping at Abilene State Park
Description - Abilene State Park lies in north central Texas amidst the low hills that create the Callahan Divide. The park encompasses 530 acres immediately east of Lake Abilene. On site visitors will find portion of the official Texas longhorn herd and two buffalo. This park is open year round with limited facilities during the winter months. A fee is charged for day and overnight use.

Attractions - The facilities within Abilene State Park include modern restrooms with showers, a developed campground with hookups, dump station and picnic facilities. A nature trail, playground, swimming pool, wading pool, sand volleyball pit, horseshoe pit, basketball goal, and a playing field are available for use on site. A park store is open with camping goods and gifts.

Recreation - The park offers camping, hiking, wildlife viewing, nature study, interpretive programs, swimming (summer), picnicking, fishing and mountain biking opportunities. Boating opportunities are available nearby at Lake Abilene.

Climate - The elevation of Abilene State Park is 1,738 feet with a semiarid climate. The geography of this region includes short grass prairie, brushland and small, wooded drainages. Location - This state park facility lies approximately 20 miles southwest of Abilene, Texas, via Farm to Market Road 89.
