General Information

Description - Daingerfield State Park, in Morris County southwest of Texarkana, is a 550.89-acre recreational area (including an 80-surface-acre lake), deeded in 1935 by private owners and opened in 1938. The original improvements were made by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). This area was the center of the iron industry in Texas; nearby is Lone Star Steel Co.

Attractions - Attractions to this scenic state park include both land and water based recreation activities. Springtime brings breathtaking bouquets throughout the park's rolling hills when dogwoods, redbuds, and wisteria vines burst into bloom. Although northeast Texas is known for pines, each fall the park is a delight as sweetgum, oak, and maple trees produce dazzling shades of red and gold, offering a stark contrast to those famous evergreens. Wildlife Observation and Photography: white-tailed deer, tame ducks and geese, raccoons, armadillos, and squirrels. Fish in the lake include crappie, perch, catfish, bass, and chain pickerel.

Facilities include restrooms with and without showers; picnic sites including a group picnic area with tables (not covered); campsites with water; campsites with water and electricity; campsites with water, electricity, and sewer; a group lodge (Bass Lodge - capacity 20 persons: five bedrooms and two baths)(weekend reservation for Friday or Saturday requires reserving both nights); an overflow camping area; an amphitheater on the lake side; a launching ramp; a boat dock; a fishing pier; and a fish-cleaning facility; 21/2 miles of hiking trails; a playground with slides and swings; cabins with heating and air-conditioning, and kitchen facilities (linens and towels are furnished; but utensils, dishes, and silverware are not); a seasonal concession (March - October) rents pedal boats and canoes.

Nearby attractions include Lake Bob Sandlin, Atlanta, and Caddo Lake State Parks; Starr Mansion State Historical Park; Morris County Museum; Wildflower Trails 3rd weekend in April; and Jefferson Historical Pilgrimage and Mardi Gras Jefferson in February; and Captain Daingerfield Days in Daingerfield 3rd weekend in October.

Recreation - Recreational opportunities offered by the Daingerfield State Park include boating, fishing, canoeing, swimming, camping, picnicking, nature study and hiking.

Climate - Daingerfield State Park is located at an elevation of 402 feet. Temperatures within the park range from a January average low of 42 degrees and July average high of 94 degrees. Location - Daingerfield State Park is situated within the Pineywoods area of Texas. The park is located east of Daingerfield on State Highway 49 for two miles to Park Road 17 entrance. From Dallas/Ft Worth take Interstate 30 to Mt. Pleasant and exit on Ferguson Road; follow State Highway 49 to Daingerfield State Park (about 22 miles from Interstate 30). From Longview, take State Highway 259 to Daingerfield; turn right on State Highway 11 and State Highway 49.
