Description - Mrs. Roosevelt used Val-Kill as a personal retreat from her busy life. Val-Kill Cottage is the focal point of the historic site. It was originally built as a factory building for Val-Kill Industries and was converted to a home by Eleanor Roosevelt in 1937. Stone Cottage was built for her by FDR in 1925. The pastoral setting includes fields, trees, swamps, and ponds.
