General Information

Description - Red Fleet Dam, a feature of the Jensen Unit, Central Utah Project, is on Big Brush Creek about 10 miles northeast of Vernal, Utah. Recreation management at Red Fleet Reservoir is performed by the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation under agreement with the Bureau of Reclamation.. The recreation area is situated 13 miles north of Vernal, Utah, at 5,600-foot elevation. The reservoir has a surface area of about 520 acres when full. The recreation season is year-round with high use on holidays and weekends. Common fish species include rainbow trout, bluegill, sunfish, and largemouth bass. Reservations are accepted for some campsites. Fees are charged. Donkey Flat U.S. Geological Service map covers the area.

Recreation - Recreational activities include; biking, boating, camping, fishing, hiking hunting, picnicking, recreational vehicles, water sports, wildlife viewing and winter sports.

Climate - The climate of Utah varies with the terrain. Visitors to the mountains will experience cool summer nights and passing storms that can alter a sunny day very quickly. Be prepared with layers when recreating in the mountains. The deserts and canyons of Utah can be dangerous places. Summer temperatures often reach above 100 degrees F, so be sure to carry water on all adventures. Flash floods in the canyons are also a threat. It is difficult to predict incoming weather when deep within a canyon so check reports before venturing into any narrow canyon areas.

Location - Red Fleet Reservoir is located in western Utah, 10 miles north of Vernal. This reservoir is the center of Red Fleet State Park.
