Recreation - A good way to become oriented to the park, and recreation opportunities within it, is to visit one of the information centers. The contact station at Chimborazo park is open year round. Those at Cold Harbor, Glendale Cemetery and Fort Harrison are open subject to staff availability. There are interpretive walking trails throughout the park at Gaines Mill, Cold Harbor, Malvern Hill, Fort Harrison and Drewry's Bluff. These are open for guided and unguided hikes. Park-tour roads are open at Cold Harbor and Fort Harrison. A living history program run throughout the summer months; check at on of the information centers for times and descriptions. Each of the park units are wheelchair accessible. Wheelchairs available on site at the Chimborazo Park Visitor Center and the Fort Harrison Visitor Center.

Climate - The climate in Richmond, Virginia, is hot and humid during the summer months. Highs often reach 95 degrees F with nighttime lows near 70. It has a mild climate throughout the year with humidity less obvious during the spring, fall and winter months. Winter brings some snow and temperatures in the 50s. Debilitating ice storms do occur in the region throughout the winter months due to warmer temperatures and high humidity.

Location - The various sites of Richmond National Battlefield lie in and around the city of Richmond, Virginia. The site can be accessed via Interstate 95 as is passes through the city.
