Description - The 3,000-acre Glacier View Wilderness is located on the west boundary of Mt. Rainer national Park. The topography allows a high degree of isolation, and the scenic views are outstanding.
Attractions
- As the name implies, the Glacier View Wilderness some spectacular views of the glaciated slopes of Mount Rainier which lies to the east. The most popular view points are from Mt. Belijica (5,476 feet) and Glacier View Point (5,507 feet), the former site of a fire lookout built in 1934.
Recreation - Recreation in the wilderness includes hiking and horseback riding.
Trails in the this wilderness include the Glacier View Trail #267, the Lake Christine Trail #249, and the Puyallup Trail #248. In addition, visitors can enjoy spectacular views of Mt. Rainier to the east. Climate - Climate on the Gifford Pinchot changes drastically with elevation. The area receives a high amount of precipitation. Much of the precipitation comes from October to April in the form of rain at the low elevations and as wet heavy snow in the higher elevations. Deep winter snowpacks accumulate in the high elevations.
Although snow is possible in the lowest elevations, it is infrequent. Late spring, summer and early autumn tend to bring clear, sunny days with moderate temperatures. Location -
The 3,000-acre Glacier View Wilderness is located on the west boundary of Mt. Rainier National Park within the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. It can be accessed via Forest Route 5995.
