Description - This park lies along the Potomac River on Virginia's Northern Neck. The spectacular cliffs are just one of the highlights of this park. This was one of Virginia's first state parks built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and dedicated on June 15, 1936.

- The park is flanked by the birthplace of George Washington and birthplace and boyhood home of Robert E. Lee. The Horsehead Cliffs provide visitors with a spectacular view. An Olympic size swimming pool, camping, boating, beautiful nature trails and a large children's playground make this park memorable.
Recreation - This park offers hiking, camping, cabins, fishing, boating/kayaking and swimming. The visitor center, open during the summer months, gives an informative historical and ecological perspective to the coastal plain.
Three popular day trips just minutes from the park are George Washington's birthplace, a national monument, Stratford Hall, birthplace and boyhood home of Robert E. Lee and the Ingleside Winery which offers winery tours and tastings.
Climate - Virginia generally has mild winters and warm humid summers. The eastern portion of the state has winter temperatures averaging above 36 degrees Fahrenheit (2 degrees Celsius). The state's summer temperatures have little variation. The eastern portion of Virginia generally experiences temperatures above 78 degrees Fahrenheit (26 Celsius). High humidity along with warm temperatures can be uncomfortable.
The park is located approximately 5 miles northeast of Montross, Virginia off Rt. 3. From Fredericksburg, Virginia, take Rt. 3 east for approximately 40 miles.

After entering the park follow the signs to the boat launch and swimming pool. Beach Trail runs along the Potomac River waterfront. River Trail can be accessed behind the swimming pool where you climb the 100 foot stairs which leads to a meadow near the restaurant.
