Description - The sandstone gorge that surrounds Mirror Lake is the result of meltwater chiseling through the landscape 10,000 years ago when an ice block released Glacial Lake Wisconsin. Etched ripples mark the stone that is so beautifully reflected in the waters of 137-acre Mirror Lake. The lake was originally named LaBar Pond for Horace LaBar who dammed the water source and operated a flourmill during the late 19th century. The dam was replaced in 1925 at which time the name changed to Mirror Lake. It was not until the middle of the 20th century when the State of Wisconsin acquired the 2.050-acre tract. Today visitors enjoy a variety of recreations and use the park as a respite from surrounding Wisconsin Dell attractions.

Attractions - Mirror Lake State Park serves as a popular overnight stomping ground for tourists visiting the nearby attractions of Riverview Park and Waterworld, Storybook Gardens, HoChunk Casino, Circus World Museum, Family Land and Tidal Wave Park, Wax World of the Stars, and much more. This quiet mid-sized park offers nearly 150 camping sites with amenities that include hot showers, clean restrooms, seven group sites, electric hookups, walk-in sites, large RV sites, amphitheater, firewood, ice and a host of relaxing day use opportunities. Camping reservations are available online or by calling a toll-free reservation number. Contact information is listed below. A new ADA log-style cabin is available for rent. The Seth Peterson Cottage, a cozy getaway designed by famed 20th century architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, is available for rent.

Twenty miles of hiking trails afford a pleasant excursion into a hardwood forest that offers views of the placid lake. Hiking opportunities in the southern area of the park double as a cross-country ski path during winter. The park has several bike trails that range from moderate to difficult. Bikes of varying styles are available for rent.

Day use areas of the park include a popular 60-yard beach with picnic tables, grills, volleyball courts, and playground. Several trails may be reached from the beach location.

Paddlesports is popular on Mirror Lake. Canoeists, kayakers, pontoon boats, boaters, and anglers use this pristine lake. The Canoe Trail is a popular pastime. Be sure to ask for the accompanying brochure and the brochure outlining the park's trails. The park offers boat rental, bait, tackle and tips on the latest hot fishing spots. Typical catches include largemouth bass and bluegill. The lake does house limited populations of northern pike, yellow perch, crappie and walleye.

Nature at the park abounds. Free handouts are available for wildflower, fern and bird list. You'll learn about the various native ferns, wildflower bloom times, and about the resident bird life. Nature programs are held throughout the year highlights butterflies, wildflowers, wetlands, wolves, and much more.

Recreation - Recreation abounds at the 2,050-acre Mirror Lake State Park. Visitors come to enjoy quiet camping, relaxing lakeside hikes, good fishing, boating, paddling, picnicking, and nature study.

Climate - Southwest Wisconsin has four distinct seasons with warm summers and long winters. January's average temperature is above 16 degrees F (-9 degrees C). Average July temperature is 85 degrees F (29 degrees C). During summer, temperatures can climb to above 90 degrees F (32 degrees C). The area's average yearly precipitation ranges from 32-34". Annual snowfalls in the Southwest Region can range from 20 - 40". Dressing in layers is a good way to remain comfortable in Wisconsin.

Location - Mirror Lake is located three miles southwest of Lake Delton in Southwest Wisconsin.
