The Bureau of Reclamation's Alcova Reservoir has campgrounds, picnic areas, boat ramps, beaches, a marina, full-hookup campsites and hiking trails. A trail at Cottonwood Beach exhibits geology of the area including numerous dinosaur bones and the skeleton of a medium-sized dinosaur (Camarasaurus) that were dicovered in sandstone ledges of the Morrison Formation by 5th grade field science students from Casper. Recreation facilities are managed by Natrona County Parks.

Attractions - Alcova Reservoir includes six campgrounds, 8 boat ramps, interpretive trail, and marina concession. Available species include brown trout, cutthroat trout, rainbow trout, and walleye. Rainbow and brown trout are stocked annually. Dinosaur interpretive trail is located near Cottonwood Creek Beach. A barrier-free fishing pier, restroom, and shelter are located at Black Beach.

Recreation - Recreational activities at Alcova Reservoir include camping, boating, fishing and interpretive nature hiking.

Climate - As throughout the Rocky Mountains, the climate varies drastically depending on elevation. Summers generally offer warm clear days with cool nights. Afternoon thunderstorms are often a possibility in the summer. In the winter, sunshine, with plenty of snow in the higher elevations, are ideal for winter activities. Harsh weather - including wind, cold, and snow - is possible throughout the winter and even throughout the year, in the highest elevations.

Location - Alcova Reservoir is located along the North Platte River, southwest of Casper. Access from Highway 220 via County roads 406 or 407.
