Description - Open year-round, Minnewaska State Park offers sights of the impressive Shawangunk Mountain Ridge that rises more than 2,000 feet above sea level. The terrain is rugged and rocky, blanketed by dense hardwood forest encircling two lakes. Clear streams cut into valleys, incising sheer cliffs and ledges and emerging in waterfalls. This park is a favorite among rock climbing enthusiasts. It also attracts hikers, horseback riders, swimmers, sightseers and more.

- Minnewaska State Park is situated in Ulster County on the dramatic Shawangunk Mountain ridge that rises more than 2,000 feet above sea level. The terrain is rugged and rocky, blanketed by dense hardwood forest encircling two lakes. Clear streams cut into valleys, incising sheer cliffs and ledges and emerging in waterfalls. Hiking, biking, horseback riding and cross-country skiing are very popular activities. Visitors also enjoy swimming, picnicking, boating and marveling at the scenery.
Recreation - Minnewaska State Park Preserve offers a swimming beach, hiking trails, equestrian trails, picnicking, recreation programs, cross-country skiing in winter and hunting in season. Climate - The Minnewaska State Park area experiences average January temperatures above 22 degrees Fahrenheit (above -6 degrees Celsius). Summer temperatures average around 72 degrees Fahrenheit (around 22 degrees Celsius). Precipitation in the region ranges from 40 to more than 44 inches of rain and snowmelt.
