- Named after one of Georgia's great legislators, George L. Smith State Park has many natural and historical highlights. Visitors can tour the grist mill, covered bridge and dam of Watson Mill, built in 1880. Anglers and canoeists will enjoy the mill pond dotted with moss-draped cypress trees. Park guests may even see blue heron, white ibis and the threatened gopher tortoise. The quiet beauty of this secluded 1,638 acre park makes it one of Georgia's best kept secrets. Visitors will find 25 tent, trailer, and RV campsites, four cottages, four picnic shelters, a winterized group shelter, and a 412 acre lake with fishing boat and canoe rentals.
Recreation - George L. Smith State Park offers water activities such as swimming, fishing, boating, and canoeing on 10 miles of canoe trails. Private boats with a 10 HP limit are permitted. Visitors will also enjoy camping, picnicking and walking on four miles of trails. Climate - Georgia has a warm climate, especially in the southern regions of the state. Expect high temperatures and humidity levels during spring and summer months. The area can offer a relatively warm escape for snow-free outdoor recreation during the winter months. Location -
