Description
- Gordonia-Alatamaha State Park is a favorite for picnicking, family reunions and golf. Picnic tables and shelters surround a 12 acre lake where visitors can rent pedal boats and fishing boats. Docks are available for land-loving anglers, and deer frequently entertain visitors. Visitors can explore a beaver lodge and dam from an observation deck. The park's nine-hole golf course features unlimited weekday play and senior citizen discounts. Gordonia-Alatamaha's unusual name comes from the "lost" Gordonia tree and the original spelling of the nearby Altamaha River. In this 206 acre park, visitors will find 26 tent, trailer, and RV campsites, four picnic shelters, a group shelter, a tennis court, a miniature golf course, and a swimming pool.
Recreation - Gordonia-Alatamaha State Park offers many recreational activities including camping and picnicking. The nine-hole golf course features a pro shop, driving range and a practice bunker putting green. Visitors can also play miniature golf and tennis. The 12 acre lake offers fishing, swimming and boating but private boats are not permitted. Boat rentals are available. Climate - Georgia has a warm climate, especially in the southern regions of the state. Expect high temperatures and humidity levels during spring and summer months.
