- Hamburg State Park covers 741 acres in the extreme northern section of Washington County and is one of the most scenic parks in the state. With modern-day facilities amidst reminders of days gone by, the park offers great fishing in a 225 acre lake with bass, bream, crappie, and catfish and a 1921 water-powered grist mill that still operates today. Buy a bag of corn meal at the country store and visit the museum displaying old agricultural tools used in rural Georgia. Thirty tent, trailer and RV campsites sit along the edge of Hamburg Lake fed by the Little Ogeechee River. The park also offers pioneer camping, 20 picnic tables, a group shelter and two picnic shelters.
Recreation - Hamburg State Park offers visitors plenty of picnicking, camping, boating, fishing, and even some hiking along a 1.5 mile trail. Pedal boats, canoes, fishing boats, and electric motor boats are available for rental. A fishing dock and two boat ramps are provided for lake access. The educational programs, museum, grist mill, and country store will also be of interest to visitors. Climate - Georgia generally experiences mild, comfortable winters and warm to hot, humid summers. The area can offer a relatively warm escape for snow-free outdoor recreation during the winter months. Hamburg State Park is located east of the Oconee National Forest in the Piedmont Region of eastern Georgia. The park is found six miles northeast of Warthen via Hamburg Road off Georgia Hwy. 102.
