Description
- Harris Neck NWR serves as an important link in the chain of refuges along the eastern seaboard, and is the inland base for two neighboring barrier island refuges, Blackbeard Island and Wolf Island Refuges, both located southeast of Harris Neck. The refuge's 2,762 acres includes 665 acres of open fields, 649 acres of mixed forest, 1,295 acres of salt marsh, and 153 acres of freshwater impoundment's. Recreation - Recreation opportunities include hiking, saltwater fishing, hunting, photography, bicycling, and wildlife observation Organized activities include deer hunts, special events scheduled through the Savannah Coastal Refuges,volunteer conducted interpretive and educational programs, by appointment. Take Exit 12 (South Newport River) on I- 95 to U.S. 17 south; travel south one mile on U.S. 17 to Harris Neck Road, travel east on Harris Neck Road for seven miles.
