Description
- Indian Springs State Park is considered one of the oldest state parks in the United States. The Creek Indians used the springs for centuries to heal the sick and impart extra vigor to the well. During the 1800s, the area was a bustling resort town. Many structures within the park were built during the Depression by members of the Civilian Conservation Corps. This 528 acre park offers 90 tent, trailer and RV campsites, 10 cottages, a group camp, and pioneer camping. A 105 acre lake and beach offers pedal and fishing boat rental. There is also a miniature golf course and a nature trail to explore.
Recreation - At Indian Springs State Park, visitors can still sample the spring water while enjoying the park's cottages, camping, picnicking, swimming, fishing, and boating activities. There is also a museum displaying historical information about the Creek Indians, the resort era and Civilian Conservation Corps. Climate - Georgia generally experiences mild, comfortable winters and warm to hot, humid summers. The area can offer a relatively warm escape for snow-free outdoor recreation during the winter months. Be prepared for occasional cold weather during the winter, especially at the higher elevations in northern Georgia. Location -
Indian Springs State Park is located south of Atlanta in the Plains Region of central Georgia. From I-75 southbound, take exit #67 to Jackson, then proceed south on Georgia Hwy. 42 to the park. Or from I-75 northbound, take exit #63, then proceed north on Georgia Hwy. 42.
