We often stayed at Emma Wood; space #28 (if you could get it first!) during the years 1999 thru 2000. My husband Jan was the camp host for awhile. Everyone knew our darling, sweet puppy, KILLER HAMPTON. Good place for groups to meet. You can watch the Dolphins in the mornings. Surf would come right up to our Motorhome door washing out our Welcome Mat. Seems to have repeat Campers who enjoyed down to earth, go with the flow, helpful to new Campers. Beautiful Ocean Scenery. Love the Trains that came by daily and zero noice from the freeway to bother anyone because of the sound of the surf. It is Rustic camping for the Rustic and Adventurous. I miss those who we met while living the Motorhome Life. So HI to all of you who recognize this post. SAD BUT TRUE: Jan Michael Laffoon passed on January 29, 2001 in Lewisville, TX. I would love to hear from all our encounters if for just to share the good times. Trying to obtain another Motorhome to be able to get our Spot #28 and reminisce. You may remember Jan by his flying the Scull and Cross Bones on a tall pole for the train engineers to see and toote their horn for friendship. This Camp Ground is NOT for the uptight, better than thou attitude ellitist. Have Fun!!!!

We stayed in the group campground area. This campground has not been maintained. The grass is dead, there were not enough trash cans, and the bathrooms were not very clean. The sites are sandwiched between Highway 101 and the train tracks. We left after one night.

Restrooms at the campground are probably considered a health hazard by EPA. The smell was unbelievable. The floors were filthy with sewage. Only three of the six toilets were open. The bike path to PCH is a nice challenge and connects to trails into Ventura and to Ventura County Fairgrounds which is enough to keep me busy. There is also a nice dirt bike path "loop" that takes you through the wilderness and to some lagoon. Beach access not a plus. Have to walk along bike path, cross railroad tracks, and climb down rocks. About 1/4 to 1/2 mile away from group camp. The beach was ok, but high tide pretty much takes over the entire beach area. Nice waves. Campground is also right next to the 101 Freeway and right next to Ventura so you won't get that wilderness feeling (which was fine by me). There were two things that I really liked about this site 1. the bike paths kept me busy (otherwise I would be bored out of my mind), 2. the proximity to my home. I went home on day 2 to take a shower.

Great place to camp, a nice beach. The biggest downfall to this park is its sort of a part park I guess. The night we stayed there a group was up until 1am and the police had to come and break it up. I'd recommend it if it weren't for that problem.
