THIS IS MY FAVORITE PARK!!! If you like to HIKE, this is the one!! Numerous trails that are well marked, diverse wildlife, quiet, and peacefull. You can CAMP in the two developed camping areas or the backwoods. The primative, undeveloped BACKWOOD SITES have nothing but a open area, fire circles and pitcher pump. Usually a maximum of 10 people per site(the most I ever saw was four) **** The water is NOT safe with out purification- DON'T DRINK IT WITHOUT PURIFICATION!! **** BACKPACKERS TIP- Don't attempt to use a water purification filter without first staining the water through a cloth such as a bandana. The pitcher pump well will bring up sand with your water and it will clog your filter. I've seen it happen to others. I would avoid camping or hiking in the summer months (unless your hardcore) as it is very hot, humid and the mosquitoes will carry you off (I still go anyway). Also the park is prone to flooding during the rainy season and I've seen them close the roads into some areas. The trails may be underwater so if you go, bring your jungle boots. The LAKE is good for fishing but loaded with gators so they don't let you swim anywhere in the park. BIRD WATCHERS will especially enjoy numerous birds the arrive in the winter months. You can rent BIKES or bring you own since there are pleanty of places to ride-on or off road. You can rent CANOES or take an AIRBOAT ride, and there's a small consession/junk STORE. The park has a large OBSERVATION TOWER a short hike off the main road- its definitly worth the walk!! The tower climbs above the tree canopy giving you an ospery's view of the park. A note on the developed CAMPGROUNDS- very limited privacy, crowded, and the racoons will drive you insane (bring a super soaker squirt gun) There are a 6 LOG CABINS you can rent but make reservations well in advance, months in advance. I have never stayed in them but they appear rustic and homee.
