On 3/22/05 I launched my kayak from King's Landing for a small fee, but it's a safe place to park your vehicle. Paddled up Wekiwa to the run & turned north. Current is noticable in the shallows. After hopping over one downed tree(didn't have to get out of the boat, but canoes do)the paddle was easy enough. Several canoes had more difficulty with the few downed trees to get over and some very shallow areas, a few inexperienced paddlers dumped themselves to everyone's entertainment. Half way up the tree canopy opens up and you have very shallow water to cut through a narrow path of weeds and hiacenths. Later, the canopy returns and the current becomes more interesting. If you're careless, a hidden log here or there will give you a wet surprise. Not much wildlife, but this was due to the noise of other paddlers. Farther upstream, the run becomes a little more technical due to sharp turns, downed trees and a stronger current in some places, but you still don't have to get out of the boat. Overall, it is an enjoyable paddle.
