I visit Lake Anna State Park very frequently during the summer and it is a great place to go swimming or have a picnic. The beach is very safe and very child friendly. The swimming area is sandy, gently sloped, and has buoy ropes that mark off different depths. The water temperature is perfect from mid July to mid September and a whole lot warmer than than the ocean. Water quality and clarity are very good. Fishing is great but much easier done from a boat than the shore. There are other state parks in Virginia that have more amenities in the park but this park is all about the lake as it should be.

This park is all right. It's the least favorite of the state parks I've been to thus far (keep in mind I've been to five of the 30 or so VA parks!). It seems very manufactured, very man made. As of July 2003, still no cabins nor campsites. This park is still worth visiting for a picnic or to wander down a wooded trail or two, but it's not very charming visually.
