Unfortunately we had a bad experience here! The park was beautiful and the site we picked out 98 I think was perfect UNTIL we were attacked by the ticks!! I first found one on my arm and didn't really worry about it. Then I checked my dogs and their ears were covered. Next, they were on my kids and my husband. This was all within a couple of hours of getting there. We spent the night and left right away the next morning. We did call the parks dept to report the infestation of ticks, so hopefully there has been a clean-up since we camped. It really was a beautiful place. We were very disappointed. This was about 3 weeks ago, beginning of June 2oo5.

If you're willing to walk a half mile or so and rough it a bit at the primitive sites, you are almost guaranteed peace and quiet. We were there on a Memorial Day weekend and only 2 of the 6 spots were taken when the rest of the camp was filled by 5 pm Friday.

Even when the camp sites are full there is plenty to obscure the view of the many and center in the sites all around you.Albermare is just outside the camp and offers the camper anything forgot before the trip. Deer abound there in the park and my 4 yr old grandson got to see his first deer only a few yards away! Hiking , fishing, beauty is all around. A have to visit place in NC. We have camped in late fall and only a few other campers are present. Rates very high on the family list of places to camp.

Canoe trip with Scout troop. Group camping facility is really nice. Grills, picnic tables and bath house made the trip quite enjoyable.
