stayed at big island overlooking the water. convenient + clean bathrooms, water for cleaning dishes. showers for 50 cents!! quiet except for the group of rowdy teens they hire to work there. about 7 of them pull up in pick up trucks and proceed to play catch and chase each other all around the road and bathroom area. for about 20 minutes. not a good idea to run out of beer since you'll drive forever looking for a store. yes-overpack because ther is plenty of room on your site to spread out! checked out horse island-dont recommend 3, 4, 5 and possibly 7 and 8-no privacy due to kids jumping off bridge and people fishing and people putting kyaks in water that are obviously NOT STAYING OVERNIGHT! the sign that says campers only beyond this point totally ignored by about 50 people but noone policing the area to prevent or deter this. it really puts a damper on those prime campsites. check store hours-they close kinda early! always plenty of ice. definitely going back!!

Our family went camping at Pawtuckaway State Park for Fourth of July weekend, and we had such a good time. We lose touch with nature because we live in a luxurious city apartment, and it was just a real pleasure to get back to basics with barbequeing outside, sleeping in our tent, going fishing, boating, roasting marshmallows and sitting by the campfire. And to be perfectly honest, we didn't miss the television, indoor cooking, air conditioning or electricity for that matter! My kids loved it! There's plenty of privacy; each campsite is separated by trees and "woods", very natural. There's a bath-house located conveinently close by to all campsites. It's inexpensive and everything is right there; the lake, boat launch, water front sites are avaiable for kayaking, and even a little lake store. There's even water spouts outside for washing dishes!

We camp here every year. We prefer the water front sites in the no wake zone so the kids can use the kayaks. We love to see the painted turtles and huge blue herons that let you coast right up to the rock they stand on (if you're quiet). Waking to the sound of loons is wonderful. Kayaking to the store for ice, or to the beach area is nice. Very peaceful camping. Lots are divided by trees and plant life. We pick blueberries for our pancakes. There is nothing to dislike here. Enjoy.
