I cannot possibly camp anywhere else but Cowan Lake. I have been going there since I was 2 weeks old. And I have gone every year (sometimes twice) for the past 17-18 years of my life.
As soon as you arrive you are greeted by friendly staff, rangers, and VIPs. You feel immediately comfortable in the shaded campsites and become taken by the hospitality given by fellow campers. My biggest recommendation for future "Cowan Lakers" is arrive at the campgrounds early in the week to get the best sites possible. And don't be afraid to bring a pet. They'll love it just as much as you. Getting tired of hot dogs and hamburgers? Just go into town and eat an amazing dinner at Golden Nugget, or grab a deli lunch at the many convient stores 10-20 minutes out of the park. Hiking is another big deal about Cowan Lake. They have some of the best trails. And are perfect all times of day. For safety reasons, only go on night hikes when offered by rangers. My favorite trail is the Lakeview. I love going to the special area where there is a lily pad pond at just the right moment during sunset (*cuhem* can you say romantic?). And if you go the right way, you come out at the ampitheater where you can ctach a flick. Cowan lake is just THE BEST campground in southwestern Ohio. Please, go and explore...
