I've been coming to Huntington for the past 15 years and in my opinion, Huntington is the best kept secret on the grand strand. The salt marshes are my favorite part because you get to see the alligators and numerous species of birds up close and in their natural habitat. Huntington has even provided me with the rare joy of seeing a pair of american bald eagles nest and care for their young in the treetops above the salt marsh. The bath-houses are clean and conveniently located and provide hot water. The campsites have running water and power supply as well. Over the years I've tent camped as well as stayed in a pop-up camper at Huntington, and the campsites accomidate both perfectly. Although secluded, Huntington is a short drive away from Murrells Inlet, which is also fairly small with great seafood, a couple bars, and Dick's Marina, which all have the flavor of a small town fishing village. Myrtle beach is about a forty-minute drive up highway 17, which is nice if your looking for shoppinig malls or water parks. When it comes to secluded, preserved beaches and nice camping facilities, Huntington is the absolute best on the grand-strand. My mother turned me to camping at Huntington, as she has been camping their for the past 30+ years. She won't stay anywhere else. Keep up the good work Huntington.

I have made about 4 camping trips to Huntington and keep coming back. If you want to be close to South Mrytle Beach area and yet be secluded in a wildlife perserve, Huntington is the ticket. A good number of campsites can be reserved and are large grassy campsites that will accomadate tents to Motorhomes. Water and electricity are at the sites. Dumpstations are very close. There are about 10 or so primitive sites with central water. these are located off the main campground but still near enough to the bath houses that you can walk to them and use. There are 3 bath houses with hot showers and the are well kept and not busy. With a large number of motorhome campers the bath house traffic is greatly reduced. At the campsite you can build a fire. The company store does provide wood as well as most needed camping and food items. The beach is very close-by and is nice to listen to while at your site. You do not have oceanview but it is only a short trail walk. The beach is 3 miles of totally undeveloped beach. It is also rarely crowded. In the off-season you have the place to yourself. If you are into nature this is a very nice bird habitat with both ocean and marsh environments. There is abundant wildlife including in the wild alligators. 100 yds behind our campsite on the ocean side, through the woods was a small marsh area that we spotted 2 large gators. That was nice to observe upclose gators in the wild. The old house that the Huntington's built in the 1930's is fun to explore. Kids enjoy this. It is not hard to understand why Archer Huntington bought 10,000 acres in this area. Fortunately he left roughly 3,000 acres for this state park. Nearby is Murrells Inlet which in my opinion is some of the best seafood at the entire beach area. Russell's, Divine, Lance's are a few of my favorites. Russell's is a great local restuarant with a great bar and a very local flavor. Across the street is a ugly but great sports bar with a killer view of the marsh. It is also fun to rent a pontoon or small skiff in Murrells Inlet for 1/2 or whole day and go fishing or just tool around Murrells inlet. Dick's marina is the ticket here. They can rent the boats and give you all the gear and bait. Also their docks are accessible even at low tide. If you bring kids you can head into south Mrytle beach and if you forget anything you are very close to a Home Depot and Kmart plus two full supermarkets a couple of miles from the park at Litchfield which is south of huntington. For day trips you are 70 miles from Charleston. I highly recommend that if you want to camp in a very quiet, well kept campground, that is clean and again very quiet which is the last of the undeveloped beaches in all of the Grandstrand area then Huntington is it. It is so strange to walk out on a beach that is truly dark at night. Bring your scope for some good viewing with the kids. Enough said

Nice campground. Big sites, nice facilities, able to build a fire. you can hear the ocean from the campsite and the beach is secluded and undeveloped. You also are near murrells Inlet which has the best seafood in all of Mrytle beach. Try Russells. Nice hiking trails. Campsites are grassy. Beach is clean wide and runs for about three miles and then is Murrells inlet on one in and Litchfield resort on the other. It is nice if you want a very secluded campground and Beach but yet are still close to the myrtle beach area. Also only about 60+miles to charleston, SC. I have been about a 3 times camping and am sold.
